Rapid Testing

Why Test?

Although the current public distancing and shelter at home orders have successfully helped to flatten the curve of those infected with COVID-19, we still need a strategy to slowly lift these measures so our society may return to work and communities may continue to socialize.  Part of this strategy must include large scale testing.

Our rapid test relies on a single finger stick blood test to rapidly determine if you have active infection or possible antibodies.

Who should be tested?

Many people that had a fever, cough and symptoms concerning for COVID 19 infection were unable to be tested early on due to the lack of testing capability.  You might wonder if that recent illness could have actually been due to  COVID 19.  Or you may have current symptoms of fever, cough, fatigue or body aches and are concerned for active infection.  If so you need to be tested.

In order to best identify those with active infection, the current test relies on your immune system which may require 3-5 days of symptoms before accurately reflecting an IgM active immune response.  However, even if your symptoms have already resolved the rapid IgG test will also assess for potential immunity as soon as 14 days from infection onset.

What is Antibody Testing?

COVID-19 IgG/IgM Rapid Test
Is a solid phase immunochromatographic assay for the rapid, qualitative and differential detection of IgG and IgM antibodies to 2019 Novel Coronavirus in human whole blood, serum or plasma. This test provides only a preliminary test result. Therefore, any reactive specimen with the COVID -19 IgG/IgM Rapid Test (Whole Blood/Serum /PLASMA) must be confirmed with clinical findings and alternative testing method(s) for example molecular testing such as Real-Time PCR. IgM antibodies appear will appear within blood as soon as 3-5 days for symptomatic patients and 7 days for asymptomatic patients. IgG antibodies appear in blood within 2 weeks after infection. Over time blood concentration of both IgM decrease, where IgM will become undetectable, but IgG will remain elevated. Results from antibody testing should not be used as the sole basis to diagnose or exclude SARS-CoV-2 infection or to inform infection status.
